1. Tell us about yourself?

My name is Thobile Mbangeni. I was born in Soweto, grew up in Pretoria and came back to Johannesburg where I now live, work and conduct my business. I started selling cupcakes at school to raise money for my matric dance and since then my baked goods have been in demand. I continued to sell cupcakes in varsity for pocket money and later started making all sorts of personalised cakes.

Customised baked goods

4. What drives and motivates you in business?

My passion for baking is seeing the smile on my customer’s face when they’re satisfied with their order.

5. What sets you apart from other entrepreneurs in your line of work?

Growing up I would always see cakes that look amazing, but eating them was disappointing. I deliver on both. And I guarantee freshness all the time.

 If you do it today, tomorrow will be easier.

9. Do you have any challenges in your line of work? how do you work around that?

 Yes, there are a few shops that supply specific ingredients thus prices of certain items can really be inflated. Also, I’m a home baker with a toddler who thinks she can bake, it’s stressful sometimes because I don’t have a nanny. I let my daughter help me when I am not under pressure. When I am, I put that girl on my back and keep going.
